As in all the great Gothic cathedrals, stained glass windows have an essenial place in Notre-Dame cathedral, Rouen. In this building, whose design dates back to the end of te twelfth century, each genration has sought, through stained glass, to enhance the complementary roles played by light and sacred images.
The visitor will be impressed by the harmony uniting the architecture and the stained glass windows, the variety of techniques used and the exceptional richness of iagery in these windows which, with the help of a pair of binoculars, will amply reward closer examination.
