The church of Saint Joan of Arc is unique as being the only example in France of the inclusion of sixteenth century stained glass glass windows in a modern building. The old stained glass windows from the church of Saint Vincent, which was destroyed in the air raids of 1944, had, fortunately, been removed as early as 1939. Forty years later, Louis Arretche's development of the Place du Vieux-Marché made possible a daring reconstruction. Between a national monument dedicated to Joan of Arc and a covered market, the architect planned a church specifically designed to house these magnificent stained glass windows, and show them in their full glory. Now, every visitor can have the privilege of admiring, in exceptional surroundings, these thirteen windows, which together constitute one of the greatest master-pieces of French Renaissance stained glass.
